We operate with the understanding that it is far more effective, and kind, to keep someone in their home and community instead of waiting to address their needs once they are unhoused. In the Bay Area, housing costs put many families on the edge of crisis. In fact, one in four people have less than $400 in the bank, making it incredibly difficult to navigate an unexpected financial crisis.
We work to prevent homelessness through a network of 150 county partners in the nine Bay Area counties. A coordinating partner in each county receives and approves applications. Once applications are approved, fiscal agents disburse payments directly to suppliers of services, such as landlords. Individuals do not receive direct cash assistance.
It costs much less to to provide short term assistance with rent than it does to help someone transition from homelessness into housing. When you support a family experiencing a crisis, it is both cost effective and the right thing to do.
No one should have to choose between paying the rent or feeding their family. When you support our mission, you help provide nutritious meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity, and it is the neighborly thing to do.
