In 1986, two Bay Area fixtures came together to create an innovative partnership. Our founding partners – San Francisco Chronicle and the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund – saw a problem and an opportunity. The problem: a one time financial crisis in a family’s life could result in them losing their home. The opportunity: bring Bay Area neighbors together to respond to these unexpected crisis and stop the spiral so people could remain in their homes. Today, our founding partners continue to cover our operating costs, so every donor dollar goes directly to help our neighbors in crisis.
Our supporters believe that an unexpected financial crisis is no match for the soul of the Bay Area. We thank those who join us every year to help keep our neighbors thriving in their homes.
We partner with more than 150 agencies throughout the nine Bay Area counties to deliver housing, critical needs and food assistance. Our county partners help Season of Sharing Fund deliver vital assistance to our neighbors in crisis.
Season of Sharing Fund aims to prevent homelessness through a network of 150 partner agencies in the nine Bay Area counties. A coordinating agency in each county receives and approves applications. Once applications are approved, fiscal agents disburse payments directly to suppliers of services, such as landlords or utility companies. Individuals do not receive direct cash assistance.
Season of Sharing Fund works to end hunger through partnerships with Bay Area food banks. We provide funds to food banks so they can purchase nutritious food like proteins and fresh produce. Our food bank partners supply local pantries, provide healthy food in schools and community centers, and help Bay Area residents apply for programs like CalFresh.
